AESC Appoints Independent Director Stefan Spang of McKinsey to its Global Board
Association of Executive Search and Leadership Consultants (AESC) today announces the appointment of independent director Stefan Spang, Senior Partner at McKinsey & Company. The AESC Global Board of Directors consists of elected representatives from each of AESC’s three Regional Councils: Americas; Asia Pacific and Middle East; Europe and Africa. Mr. Spang is the first independent director appointed to the AESC Board in the association’s 58 year history.
Based in DĂĽsseldorf, Germany, Spang joined McKinsey in 1992 and has served clients in the German, London, Swiss, and New York offices. He has been the managing partner of McKinsey’s global Business Technology Office from 2007 to 2014 and is also a core leader of McKinsey’s Global Banking Practice. Since 2004, he is a member of the board of MIO Partners, McKinsey’s investment firm. He also leads alliances, partnerships, and acquisition strategy for McKinsey's New Ventures, a recently formed group within McKinsey focused on fostering innovations and integrating them into their client work.
AESC Board Chair and co-founder and Chair of Talengo/The Global Community for Leaders (TGCL), Krista Walochik stated, “We look forward to the unique perspective Stefan will bring to our Board and to our profession. Both digitalization and globalization are key themes not only for today’s global business, but for executive talent advisors. With his strong background in technology and fostering innovation within a Professional Services capacity, Stefan’s point of view will greatly complement our Board as we look to the future of executive search and leadership consulting.”
Mr. Spang stated: “I'm truly excited to join the Board of this exceptional professional association. The war for talent not only continues, but the scale and speed of change wrought by technological innovation has only made the battle even more fierce. I look forward to bringing to AESC the insights I have learned over three decades of building McKinsey, and helping leading global clients address these issues across technology, strategy, and innovation.”
Mr. Spang’s appointment follows a search process managed by AESC’s Nominating and Governance committee, chaired by Thomas T. Daniels, AESC Board Chair Emeritus and a senior director at Spencer Stuart. “The AESC Board of Directors ensures that AESC membership represents the highest quality and standards in the executive search and leadership consulting profession globally, and that the association continues to think strategically about emerging issues in the executive recruitment, assessment, succession planning and broader talent ecosystem. Stefan will bring a unique outside perspective to the board in our ongoing effort to facilitate for AESC members the delivery of insights and innovations to serve clients more effectively, as we all navigate challenges and opportunities in these times of business transformation,” stated Daniels.
Peter Lagomarsino, a partner at Mintz Group, commented: "We greatly value our relationship with AESC and are happy to support the association and its members by providing global due diligence services around critical board and executive appointments. The Mintz Group seeks to complement AESC’s mission by setting the highest standards in background checking and providing solutions to its members who work in an increasingly complex and global talent environment."
