Korn Ferry: What’s happening in European Boardrooms and a Guide to Best Practices

A recent report from Korn Ferry finds recruiting directors among friends and business acquaintances has become increasingly criticized in European boardrooms.  Instead of hiring “the old boys club”, the recent trend emerging in boardrooms is one full of diversity, both in terms of gender and individual perspectives. The wave of diverse ideas allows organizations the ability to meet the challenges that European businesses face. These changes in the boardroom are brought about by corporate governance codes that provide guidance on the structure and functioning of boards throughout the EU member states.

The report finds forces that shape how boardrooms operate include economic turbulence, increased regulation, force to diversify the boardrooms, and more active investors. With those forces in mind Korn Ferry recommends 14 steps to build an effective board. These recommendations stem from interviews from seasoned business leaders and insight from ecoDa and Korn Ferry.
