Korn Ferry: More than Just a Lawyer
In a report on general counsel assessment, Korn Ferry found that general counsel members bring more to the table than just their legal expertise. To distinguish themselves, legal executives develop a greater knowledge of business in addition to their strength of influencing and negotiation. Korn Ferry finds that in order to be a valuable asset to an organization, general counsel members need to have learning agility, which it defines as the willingness and ability to learn from experience and apply that learning to perform under new conditions. These candidates will actively be seeking out development opportunities to enhance their skills and knowledge. When CEOs and boards look to hire general counsels, they should look for candidates who possess these traits.
