It’s important for a new leader to make the right first impression. And, according to this article from Korn Ferry, the amount of time new leaders have to ingratiate themselves to their new company is decreasing. This means newly-hired CEOs must set the right tone within the first 30-60 days.

Signe Spencer, a Senior Consultant at Korn Ferry, suggests that establishing engagement through listening and communicating is essential. Speaking with varied people throughout the company right at the beginning of a tenure is a great way for new leaders to assess the important issues of the business. After hearing from the existing employees, the new CEO is then in an excellent position to devise and communicate a new business strategy and vision for the company, based off the feedback of employees, to the board, employees, and customers.
