Witt/Kieffer: Women in Sports Leadership

Witt Kieffer’s article on women in sports leadership was recently featured in SportsPro Magazine. There have been many recent examples of females becoming executives in the sports industry. For example, Becky Hammon was hired as the first full-time female assistant coach of the San Antonio Spurs. Although women in leadership positions are increasing and there is more demand for female leaders, Witt/Kieffer finds there are still several things organizations can do to support women.

They include:

• Emphasis succession planning and leadership development
• Building partnerships with female-oriented organizations to help discover talent
• Identifying key qualities and searching for leaders who have those attributes
