Korn Ferry: Is Technology Hindering Board Effectiveness?

Lee Esler, the leader of Board and CEO Services for Korn Ferry’s Global Technology practice, looks at the recent trend of tech-firm boardrooms favoring more low-tech options for communicating and meetings, and how this retreat back to basics may be beneficial to the boards’ success.

While technology has certainly made it easier to connect with others who are remote, there are also technical difficulties and a lack of humanity and team building that comes with face-to-face interaction to contend with when relying so heavily on technology. Citing evidence from Korn Ferry’s work, Esler indicates that more organizations are hiring directors who are closer to the company’s home. This can have the added benefits of the director being more engaged with the company as well as being able to build personal relationships with other directors, resulting in a better work dynamic.
