Korn Ferry: The Benefits of Service-Oriented Leadership

CEO of Korn Ferry, Gary Burnison, discusses the difference between being in charge and being a true leader. He cites “me-dership,” which he characterizes as the leadership style of “people who rather be the leader of a small team as opposed to taking a player role on a bigger team,” as a growing trend that can have adverse effects on long term performance. Those who lead in this way likely also have a lower emotional intelligence, which, according to Korn Ferry research, creates a negative climate 78% of the time.

Leaders who are more selfless and service-oriented often see an uptick in engagement, commitment, and retention from creating a more positive work climate.
