Russell Reynolds Associates: Exploring What Makes a Great Mentorship

Russell Reynolds Associates surveyed over 100 financial executives in an effort to learn what makes a great mentor-mentee relationship. More than half of the respondents are currently members of the C-suite, many of whom still have mentees themselves. Through this survey, Russell Reynolds was able to look at how good mentorships begin, how to find the right mentor, and what can help to improve the mentorship relationship.

Notable findings include:

  • 66% of respondents’ mentorships began in a reporting relationship and 68% of these continued after the reporting relationship ended.
  • Of those surveyed, 74% of mentees value advice from their mentor more than anything else.
  • Nearly half of both mentors and mentees would like more time together.
